ECX chief Elleni Gebre-Medhin resigns

The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) announced that Eleni Gebre-Medhin (PhD), founder and CEO will transition out of a leadership role in the company effective September 30,US President Obama, British PM Cameron, Eleni Gabre Madhin, CEO of the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange, Russian PM Medvede, in a luncheon on Food Security at the G-8 summit, May 2012 2012.

In a press conference she gave in connection her transition here on Thursday Dr. Elleni said the transition in the outcome of succession plan carefully implemented since May 2011 to ensure the smooth handover for a team of internationally recruited management professionals from April 2008 to date.

She said locally recruited, highly capable team which has been with ECX since the start of operations will take over senior management position starting July.

Dr. Elleni said the ECX Board of Directors has appointed Anteneh Assefa who is currently the Vice President of Operation of the Bank of Abyssinia as the next CEO of ECX.

“ I feel exceptionally luck to have had a dream , had the opportunity to work with an incredible group of dedicated individuals …I have absolutely no doubt that the future for ECX is as bright as ever ” she said.

She said the outgoing team of international officers will remain in advisory roles to ensure a seamless transfer of duties and the successfully completion of ongoing initiative.
